TWISTER - HTC, Inc.

I wanted to report that this is my first marble job in a month and a half and I am still alive ( back to back to back concrete jobs)

Today I tried a twister pad for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at the results. I had a marble shower that an incorrect cleaner was used and it was streaky and etched.

I purchased a 400 grit pad and cut it to my largest flexible backer which is 7 inch on the Makita. I spritzed with water and went to town. The pad pruduced a slurry just like a 400 grit resin pad would. Even though the pad was large, it stuck to the velcro and did not slide or fall off or wear out and need to be turned over like traditional silicon carbide screens.

I could not see any clarity that the pad produced but it took the etchings out ( I tried to polish with 5x before just to see if it was truly the twister pad that worked) I think that this pad could be used successfully on honing travertine or limestone or used in a shower that does not require a gloss reading in the 90's. I think the pads are supposed to last around 10,000 square feet based upon HTC's recommendation.

Showers are hard enough as it is and having a 7" surface area on a flexible pad that does not cause picture framing was very nice.

These pads are only made in 400,800, 1500 and 3000. They were designed for concrete but can be used in the marble world as well.

I had a brief correspondance with MB regarding these pads and I believe that he had them analyzed and there was no diamond content in them, only silicon carbide (correct me if I am mistaken.) Therefore I think that they may be used best for what I suggested.

Re: Field Test of Twister

Hi James

I work for the Cleaning Pad Company that supplies the Twister Pads in the UK and Northern Ireland. I was interested to see your results with the shower. They have been successfully used on sinks by a few people, but not showers upto now. Silicon carbide by the way are articficial industrial diamonds. The cleaning pads are impregrnated with them on one side and can be used on all hard floor surfaces using just water, you dont need to use any chemical to get your results. Its a 3 stage system - White (800 grit) to prepare the floor using water (about 15 passes), Yellow (1500 grit) to bring up the finish using water (again about 15 passes), and Green (3000)to burnish and maintain daily with a spray buff of water. We also do a Black (80/100 grit) and Red (400 grit) pad for more difficult areas, but beyond that you are into diamond grinding proper. The pads are being used in many different areas now so if you have any queries please dont hesitate to contact me. Best Regards Deborah Hagarth-Dodd (thecleaningpadcompany)

Re: Field Test of Twister

Concerning these pads. I guess they are thick like a traditional buffing pad, yet impregnated with grit - allowing "flattening" of the stone without the need to flatten minor lippage. I've just spent 3 days in a crema marfil shower (well I didn't, but my ace did). We flattened it with a 100 grit metal bond pad and polished way fast factory gloss from there. It would have been nice to get there without having to flatten it first. Has anyone else had any decent experience with these pads?
