In a world gone green

In a world gone “green”, everyone these days seems to be on the re-purpose, re-use and recycle band wagon. Yet do we truly understand what works, what does not, what is hype, what is real and just what does “going green” really mean?

We can start with the simplest of questions asked every time we visit almost any store – paper or plastic? Of course, this is a huge debate and has been for quite some time. Lets look at them one at a time.

Plastic bags are made from petroleum. Yep, you guessed it – oil. Now to be fair it must be mentioned that plastic is made of a by-product of oil refining. However, it accounts for approximately 4% of the worlds total oil production. That may not sound like a lot, but when you stop and think about it that is a great deal of oil.

Re: In a world gone green

Diesel is also a by-product of oil and used to be cheaper than gas - what gives?

I think America has finally woke up about plastic - look for more bans on plastic due to America failing to recycle. The plastic process loop is only complete if the materials are recycled and it does not end up buried in landfills or burned in incinerators. Plastic leaches into our water when buried and emits deadly toxins when burned. Our grand children will pay dearly for this mess if it isn't banned in the USA.

The failure in America to recycle is simple - it cost too much money and greed rules in the USA.

Europe and other places around the world safely use these materials but they also pay dearly for fuel and have no choice to recycle.

WAKE UP AMERICA!
