StonExpo Announces More International Endorsements!
(Vit?ria, Brazil, Verona, Italy & Dallas, TX) StonExpo, THE U.S. stone industry event, has entered into mutual endorsement agreements with two top international exhibitions in the natural stone industry.
StonExpo is pleased to announce that it has reconfirmed and added some new Official International Endorsers for the show. For the first time, StonExpo will partner with the Vit?ria Stone Fair—the International Exhibition of Ornamental Stones and Technology—Brazil's largest trade show in the stone industry!
"With the increase in usage and demand for Brazilian stone in the U.S., this endorsement is a perfect match," says Michelle Troop, Senior Show Director, StonExpo. "We are so pleased to have the Brazilian stone sector endorsing StonExpo and look forward to showcasing their products to stone industry professionals at StonExpo 2006."
"This new partnership established between Vitória Stone Fair and StonExpo will certainly bring great benefits to the ornamental stone sector," says Cecilia Milanez Milaneze, Owner, Milanez & Milaneze - Vitória Stone Fair. "It will promote and increase the commercialization of Brazilian ornamental stone. Through this agreement, the Brazilian exhibitors will have easier access to participate in this well-known and professional event."
In addition, after a successful partnership in 2005, StonExpo is pleased to once again join efforts with Marmomacc—the International Exhibition of
Marble Stone and Technology—the world's largest and most prestigious exhibition in the natural stone industry. StonExpo will showcase a variety of fine Italian
marble stone and technology in an expanded pavilion at StonExpo 2006.
"After the first year of cooperation with Hanley Wood Exhibitions, we have noticed an increasing visibility of our exhibition, Marmomacc, in the U.S.," says Mauro Albano, executive of Marmomacc. "The feedback we have received from the Italian companies exhibiting at the collective stand organized by Veronafiere, in cooperation with the Italian Association Marmomacchine, was very positive as well as the impressions given by the other Italian companies visiting and knowing StonExpo for many years.
"So we are really pleased to renew our cooperation with HWE for 2006," Albano adds, "and we are aware that this year even more Italian companies will come with us to present their products at StonExpo. As for us, StonExpo is the only trade show in the U.S. specialized on both natural stone materials and technologies for the industry."
These three industry-leading events will work together to ensure maximum exposure and growth for the stone industry and their respective shows. Through these mutual endorsement agreements, Marmomacc, Vit?ria Stone Fair and StonExpo confirm their commitment to the stone industry and its future growth and success. Attendees and exhibitors at all three events will benefit through expanded and far-reaching promotional efforts, increased show attendance and enhanced educational opportunities.
"As the producers of StonExpo, we are delighted to be working with the leadership of Marmomacc and Veronafiere and Vitória Stone Fair and Milanez Milaneze to jointly promote our events and the importance of the global stone industry," says Troop. "The endorsement of StonExpo by the Vitória Stone Fair and Marmomacc validates the importance of StonExpo and the North American stone industry."
The mutual endorsements between StonExpo and these two important events assures that each show will expand its global reach and significance. No other U.S. event can provide the worldwide scope of these events and the dynamic that StonExpo offers.
As the use of stone continues to grow around the world, it is important for the industry to keep pace with the demands of the industry. Marmomacc, the Vit?ria Stone Fair and StonExpo are committed to meeting the needs of quarries, manufacturers and suppliers, as well as the end users. Thousands of architects, designers, fabricators, builders and others rely on stone for their construction needs and will be looking to these events for the latest products, services and information to expand the usage of these products.
Marmomacc—the International Exhibition of
Marble Stone and Technology—is the world's largest and oldest specialized trade fair in the stone industry. The event completed its 40th edition in October 2005. More than 1,400 companies exhibited at the show in 63,000 net square meters (678,000 net square feet) of exhibit space. More than 61,000 attended the 4-day event.
Vit?ria Stone Fair—the International Exhibition of Ornamental Stones and Technology—is the largest Brazilian specialized trade fair in the stone industry. The event completed its 21st edition in February 2006. The 2006 International Vitória Stone Fair presented more than 1,200 varieties of ornamental stones with 390 exhibitors. The state of Espirito Santo, which hosts Vit?ria Stone Fair, is one of the most important world centers in ornamental stones exporting 71% of the Brazilian production.
Marmomacc 2006 will be held October 6-8 in Verona, Italy. For complete information, visit

 | | Marble | MARBLE: CHARACTERISTICS
This standard includes general information on the characteristics
and common uses of marble and identifies typical problems
associated with the material.
INTRODUCTION
Marble is an extremely hard, metamorphic stone composed of calcite
(CaCO3). It is formed as a result of the recrystallization of
limestone under the intense pressure and heat of geologic
processes. The effect of this process is the creation of a stone
with a very tight crystalline structure and small but definite
porosity. Because of its structure, marble can take a very high
polish and is a very popular decorative stone for architectural and
sculptural uses. The limited porosity of marble, especially
polished marble, makes it less vulnerable to the leaching effects
of water. Calcium carbonate, however, of which marble is composed,
is highly susceptible to attack by acidic agents. Marble is
readily dissolved by acids, even very dilute acids, however the
actual results of acidic exposure will vary with the nature of the
acid. Chlorides, nitrates, sulfates and other chemical compounds
react differently with marble and produce various by-products,
which have a wide range of solubility and impact on the durability
of marble. For this reason, it is always important to determine
the exact type of pollutants causing marble deterioration.
Marble itself can be of two types, one composed of calcite and the
other of dolomite. Dolomitic marble is much more resistant to acid
attack than calcite marble. The color of marble ranges from the
brilliant white of calcite to black, including blue-gray, red,
yellow and green, depending upon the mineral composition.
TYPICAL USES
Marble has many decorative and structural uses. It is used for
outdoor sculpture as well as for sculpture bases; in architecture
it is used in exterior walls and veneers, flooring, decorative
features, stairways and walkways. The way in which the stone is
used may be a factor in limiting or controlling the severity of
exposure. The use or function of the marble may also affect the
feasibility of applying certain treatments, but type of use is not
the primary factor in the major types of deterioration and damage
to which marble is susceptible. | | |
