Stone firm to show off work at Home & Garden Show

If you are looking for new countertops, specially cut stone inlays or a new fireplace, Stone Surfacing Systems may be just the place. Owned by Bill Wiggins, the business has been cutting stone designs for about 17 years steadily, with a tile business prior to that since 1932.
“I was originally in tile, but there was more demand asking for stone countertops, so I purchased the equipment and started from there,” said Wiggins. “I liked it so much I went full time.”
Inside his warehouse on Redmond Court are sheets and sheets of different materials: granite, marble, aluminum, Plexiglass and more.
Using a variety of machines, Wiggins and his employees can cut any type of countertop, residential or commercial, wholesale or custom installation.
“We also do medallions out of stone — any shape, size or product,” he said, adding steel as thick as 9 inches can be cut. “We use a waterjet that uses water and garnet to cut the medallions."

Medallions can be table centerpieces, such as one that’s 18 inches across, spins around and can be used as a serving platter for entertaining. They also do coasters and custom intricate designs. The waterjet machine reads the pattern entered into a computer and cuts it.
“We’ll be at the Home & Garden Show this weekend and will be giving away two different medallions. We will also be showing cabinet displays, artwork from the waterjet, edges, all different kinds of coasters” said Wiggins. “This is our second year at the show, and we got business off it last year, and it’s good advertising/PR for the business.”
The show has more than 52 vendors expected to demonstrate products, give home and garden improvement tidbits and more. The show opens Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Two-day tickets are $5 and free for children 12 and younger.
