Re: Remodeling trends

Wow, is that a fact? Do you know that most granite does not need to be sealed? Do you know that the man-made stuff is UV sensitive? Was it explained to you that the quartz is heat resistant but not the binders? Did they also tell you why man-made stone does not have a great polish? The only advantage man-made stone had over natural stone was the fact that the seams were almost invisible, I did say had because there is a new breed of craftsmen that is putting the art back into the industry. If you want to see real world experience with natural stone, do your research at the Natural Stone Restoration Alliance at www.nsraweb.com the guys and girls there will do every thing to help you.

I think that man made stone is boring. It just doesn't have that natural look that granite has to it. Seem to me that the only advantage in the fact that seam are almost invisible is that they aren't having NSRA members come out and make their granite seams invisible and better looking.

Not only do I agree with you but the home owner can just pick better fabricators to do the job right the first time. most people that dislike the natural stone do so because of a bad experience with a Hack.

Re: Remodeling trends

yea they must look at the ES and think that it looks like crap and I paid for what? When I see a slab of granite that has been professionally installed and taken care of I am amazed at the beauty of the flow in the stone and it is completely natural. That makes me happy.

Re: Remodeling trends

Lets look at it form a home owner point of view.
Today there are so many place that sell natural stone. the home owner goes and buy from the lowest bider (mistake #1). They chose the stone solely because of color (mistake #2). The hack that is selling the stone does not ask any type of questions about the home owner life style and cleaning habits (mistake #3). The home owner nows buy a bunch of products for the stone that they do not need (mistake #4). One of the biggest mistake that they make is believe that all stone is the same and suitable for all application, the other is not having the number for the local restoration guy, preferably one that is affiliated with the NSRA.
