Is this about MB Stonecare's Maurizio Bertoli? It happened in PA near where he lives...
Police: Truck In Fatal Accident Missing Speedometer - Local News Story - WCAU | Philadelphia
State police said the truck responsible for a freak and fatal accident on Interstate 95 Thursday should not have been on the road at all.
Police uncovered several safety violations while inspecting the truck, including a broken lug nut, which is believed to be the cause of the accident.
"I deeply regret what happened to the family," truck driver Willie Benjamin said Friday.
The truck was traveling southbound on I-95 near the Walt Whitman Bridge when two tires on the rear driver side of the trailer flew off, police said.
The tires landed into the northbound lanes and sheared the top off a minivan, killing the driver, Maurizio Bertoli.
His wife survived with minor injuries.
Police said the trailer's inspection sticker expired in April and the truck should not have been on the road.
"The mere fact the vehicle doesn’t have a speedometer, that in itself is a violation that truck should not have gone out on the road in that condition at that time," said Lt. Anthony Sivo of the Pennsylvania State Police.
The missing and broken items may have been caught in pre-road inspection, police said.
The company that owns the trailer, Johnson and Dennis, which hauls items out of Broomall, Pa., said the trailer was inspected within the last week, but Pennsylvania does not require the sticker be shown.
The company that owns the truck cab, J and B Flooring, in Laurel, Md., said the speedometer was out of the truck for repairs.
No charges have been filed but police are still investigating.
