Making countertops count

Seen more and more in new construction, it's another indicator of the trend towards upgrading existing residences, cottages and businesses.
"We specialize in granite and marble countertops," said Paul Pandolfo, who with his wife, Barb, runs the firm. "However, our expertise extends from stone slab shower walls and custom designed furniture for home and cottage living, to impressive corporate board room tables."
Working in the stone industry since 1981, Pandolfo's self-employed career began in Vancouver, B.C., then back to his hometown of Windsor, Ont.
And, for over a decade, Paul operated his natural stone manufacturing company south of the border, serving some of the largest home builders in North America.
However, the Pandolfos' appreciation for Northern Ontario grew over many years of cottage life, and in February 2006, they made Temagami their permanent home and opened Northern Marble and Granite.
"A typical project begins with a full service, in-home or job-site consultation," Paul explained. "With a service area from North Bay to Timmins and beyond, we bring the natural stone experience right to our customers, rather than travelling to a showroom."
Working with the interior's d‚cor and cabinetry, this personal in-house selection process allows the granite to be viewed in the best light possible, the client's home. "We measure and template at the same time, ensuring every countertop is custom fit, while reducing wait time for installation."
Natural stone, such as granite and marble, is imported from countries all over the world, including Canada, United States, Italy, Brazil and India, to name a few.
"The design and style of our custom stone products is second to none," he added, "whether for homes, cottages or businesses."
