Just saw this on the news
A granite dealer who noticed an unusual image in a rock slab plans to sell it on eBay.
The man, who does not want to be identified, says the slab depicts Jesus on the cross. A number of people have commented that the blue images in the lower left and right hand portions of the slab appear to be angels praying.
The man says the slab was quarried in Brazil two years ago, and apart from cutting and polishing has not been altered in any way. The size of the granite slab is 7' 4" high and 6' 10" wide. It is 3/4" thick and split down the middle (normal cutting to make commercial sized polished granite slabs). The slab wieghs approximately 400 pounds.
Most granite is "named" for commercial application. This happens to be an example of "exotic" granite -- a piece of polished granite that can be described as "one of kind in terms of pattern."
The name of this particular piece is "Juparana Lapidus." The name "Juparana" is traced to the Juparana Lagoon in Linhares municipality in the State of Espirito Santo in Brazil. Espirito Santo literally means "Holy Ghost" and is Portuguese in origin. "Lapidus" is translated from its Latin roots meaning "a precious stone".
The Seller certifies that this not a work of human art and no human being has had an impact, other than cutting and polishing, on this natural creation. The slab will be offered for sale through the eBay store
