Getting The Look You Want

Extraordinary Hand-Cut New England Fieldstone for an Exquisite Look

In a historical area outside of Boston is a street of authentic New England homes on large tracts of rolling hills and pastures.
About a dozen of these beautiful homes – and there aren't all that many on this street – have chosen to use natural stone from Stoneyard.com. The project we profile today is about 90% complete, consisting of a main house and guest house.

The main house has multiple retaining walls and freestanding walls of Stoneyard.com NE Fieldstone Flat Mosaic Veneer with monolithic bluestone steps, which means the entire step is a single piece of bluestone, in this case our popular blue color with a thermal finish. This is similar to what you normally see with granite steps, though bluestone has more panache, if you ask me.

But that is not what is extraordinary. The important feature is the workmanship. Look closely at the joints on the fieldstone – they are what we refer to as paper joints, so tight you can barely fit a sheet of paper through them. The mosaic fieldstone, after each stone has been hand cut on-site to fit, has almost a square and rectangular look, very unique and very difficult to achieve.

If that weren't enough, the mortar between the joints is recessed to the point where it is hidden, another testament to the skill of the masons.

Hundreds of tons of Stoneyard.com NE Fieldstone Flat Mosaic Veneer were used in this project by two amazing masons: Fred Anderson of Anderson Landscaping, who is working on the main house stonewalls, veneer and landscaping, and David Gravlin of Gravlin Masonry, who is working on the guest house chimney and veneer. You'll find both masons in our dealer locator.

When you want that New England look, remember that even the most discriminating homeowners of impressive New England homes in historical areas choose NE Fieldstone from Stoneyard.com. Thank you,
David Croteau

Stoneyard.com is providing the stone for this event sponsored by the New England Wildflower Society. It is truly a garden in the woods, a wonderful retreat to visit and walk around. Here is Linda Hoffman building a turtle made from our Mexican beach pebbles. Seven other artists created stone sculptures that you will enjoy.
