People used to wonder where the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum stood with respect to the art of the present day. Not anymore.
The new de Young, which opened to the public in mid-October, made known its intent to keep pace when it unveiled works commissioned in the past year and a half from contemporary artists Andy Goldsworthy, Gerhard Richter, Ed Ruscha, James Turrell and Kiki Smith.
