Even though its President Dan Hovis has an accounting background he always had the desire to join the construction industry. To be successful, he knew he would have to be innovative and offer something a little different than the mainstream. That is why he launched Hovis Custom Builders into the residential market, constructing homes with light gauge steel frame. Several years ago, Hovis Custom Builders began to explore the benefits of a product called, Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) and at that time decided the marriage of ICF with light gauge steel frame was the ideal combination for the construction of new homes.

There are many reasons Hovis Custom Builders believes steel and ICF are the best framing materials for a home. "One of the main reasons we build this way is termites. There is a saying in the construction industry, "there are only two kinds of houses, those with termites and those that will get them." We beg to differ with this statement. In a wood framed home that would typically take a six-ton air-conditioning unit, if built using ICF block would require only a four-ton unit, a difference that can save 30 to 40 percent on monthly electric bills. ICF and steel frame construction, virtually eliminates the risk of a termite infestation and the need for a termite elimination system and periodic retreats and the cost that go along with these treatments.
