Cool Travatine Floor Tile - Grout Haze

HI- Want to know how to restore some travatine tiles. Had someone do a re-grouting that messed it up and left me with a lot of grout haze..After a few applications of a grout haze remover and water clean up- still has a streaky lookin film on it.....

Some suggested that I use a very light honing powder on it.. can anyone let me know if that can be applied by hand, what to use and if there may be something else out there that would be better.

Also, any suggestions on how to fix my grout?

Thanks

Re: Travatine Floor Tile - Grout Haze

You had the floor regrouted? What kind of grout haze remover did you use? Most of them are acidic and will etch the stone. This may be the cause of your streakiness....do the streaks match the pattern of your application of the haze remover?

Yes, a honing powder would remove the grout haze and even up the finish, and yes it can be done by hand, but it would really be a back-breaking job to do it that way. I would suggest you locate a qualified restoration contractor in your area.

Where are you located?

And what is the problem with the grout, was the re-grout not done properly? Is it sanded or unsanded grout?

Re: Travatine Floor Tile - Grout Haze

Hi- The Grout Haze remover was purchased from Lowes and it was just called Grout Haze Remover. Located near Phoenix, AZ. If a light honing will do it, what would the process be?

Hi Eric

Welcome! You get around. I'm with Buddy on his assesment.

Depending on the severity of the etching, a honing powder may work. If not, there are various proceedures that the pro's use, depending on your application.

Re: Travatine Floor Tile - Grout Haze

Hi John,
Came across this Message Board as well in my searching. So basically I should have a professional come in to do this for me, it is not a do-it-yourself type of thing?

Thanks
Eric

Hi Eric

If it were a small area, I'd be more than happy to guide you through it. Since you have 1,000 square feet, that's a different issue.

Yes, I would suggest a pro. I wish I was in Phoenix visiting my folks. I'd be more than happy to take a look if I was in the area.
