Re: Taking A Survey Form The Members.

Sorry but in our jobs we come into many other surfaces. There are too many tricks and tips we can apply to stone. We need other input because let's face it there are not enough products and tools made specially for natural stone.

Re: Taking A Survey Form The Members.

The original Idea for this site is and still is to have somewhere that stone repair guys can can call home and discuss natural stone, hence the name Natural Stone Restoration Alliance. We could have gone with SRA that would have been Surface Repair Alliance, or Stone Restoration Alliance but we define what we were about.

As long as ES continue to bash natural stone to make a sale, I would not help them come out of the dark ages. If they start to sell the es on its own merits than that could be a norther story.

When I look at trade magazines and see that they sell ad space to the ES guys it gets under my skin. As of now we only have one person that open topics about ES, If we ask him nicely no to start these topics I feel we would respect our request. If a consumer ask, we can always send them to one of so many other forums to get the answers they need.

The outcome of this poll will determine if we ask that one member are if not. If any of the core members want to discuss this in the NSRA room, please start a new post in the lower rooms.

Re: Taking A Survey Form The Members.

I guess I made the decision to just go with natural stone only as I,ve said before about 2 -3weeks ago I,ve reverted back to using my old company name of Finlayson Natural Stone Ltd , instead of the stonebenchtop co ltd which was to be my all encompassing natural and es surfaces.I guess about 9 -10 years ago I saw my fist slab/sheet of es, it was blue with sparkle bits in it and I thought this bollocks will never take off, i was wrong. I swallowed my pride about 5 years ago and started to work it, what a piece of p.ss it was, no veins, no hard and soft spots, easy to polish, in fact it was so easy I think any man in the street with a little common sense could work it.
But I think that is the point, people are getting into solid surface es that have no intention of doing natural stone and not have the skills to do it because natural stone is a very different animal from es.
I go and look at granite tops that have been in 10-15 years and a reseal and occasional polish and they look as good as the day they went in, now down here we have some of the highest UV rays in the southern hemishpere now what do you think the es is going to look like in 10-15 years at an educated guess I don,t think its going to be too flash.
So in answer to the question for my point NATURAL STONE all the way

Re: Taking A Survey Form The Members.

Geez I saw this too late and did not get a chance to vote..lol and DOH !!!!

Guess what I would have voted !!! lol..I agree with Jo , I joined this site because of OUR NAME NATURAL STONE !!! and as Kiwirobin said many are turning to ES cabinet makers etc etc because it is so easy and the marketing of the ES companies is forcing them to.

IF we do let the ES in..it will be like like my OLD trade cabinet Making..all the TRADESMEN are gone !!! anyone can make flat pack cupboards now no need for training just read the instructins and a screw driver, gee I put granite on many cabinets that the clinets bought from either IKEA or Bunnings here. Thank GOD IKEA and co can not sell GRANITE TOPS as they would have by NOW, they do sell LAMINATE tops to go with the kits !!!

LET'S NOT SELL OUR SOULS !!!!!!!
