Stone Enhancer

I recently had Peacock Green granite countertops installed. I know it does not need to be sealed, although I believe my fabriactor seals everything. In an effort to keep it looking beautiful and mirror-shiny, I bought MB5 cleaner from Maurizio and MB13 polish. I even have black wax, which I used with 3x steel wool on some troubled areas to bring up a great shine. What exactly is stone enhancer and what can it do for my stone? Can it damage the stone in any way? Susan

Re: Stone Enhancer

wow, first off stop butting wax on your stone, and stop using the 3x steel wool pads.
A color enhancer is use to darken the stone. if you want to see what your stone would look like enhance just wet the stone. Your peacock should not have much of a change from the enhancer. If you want a easy and simple way to to care for your stone, you should consider lustro Italiano stone cleaner kit,
Quote:
32 ounce bottle with attachable sprayer lustro Italiano stone cleaner contains no harsh detergents that can strip away stones natural polish. unlike some other household solvents, this cleaner will not shorten the life of stone sealants.
13.5 ounce aerosol can Lustro Italiano stone polish with sealants has unique properties that bring out the luster of natural stone. compared to other polishes, it creates a deeper long-lasting shine.
this kit has proven to be one of the best on the market.

Re: Stone Enhancer

I have never personally used the MB products so I don't know what's in them but I surely agree with Huligar - Keep the wax and steel wool away from your tops. The wax looses its black color over time and turns white which makes your tops look pale. The steel wool is scratching the resin (not the granite) in and on your stone your stone. If you keep this up you will need a restoration guy to re-polish your tops properly - big $$$$ and if not done properly by the right person will make your tops look worse. Lustro italiano is the only way to go.

Enhancer is temporary - better than wax but still temporary. Enhancer will most likely not go into the stone with wax jammed in there anyway. I am sure your tops need a good deep cleaning to remove the bad stuff.

Re: Stone Enhancer

Thanks for the advice. I tried to purchase the Lustro Italiano kit that Huligar and Topshop recommended, but although the product was $30.00, shipping charges were $72 for 3-day and $121 for 1 or 2 days!!!
If you know of any other way I can buy them, I'll be happy to give them a try.

Thanks,
Susan

Re: Stone Enhancer

topshop, color enhancers are technically temporary, but the color enhancing part of it will outlast the sealing properties. youre talking temporary as in 10-15+ years on a countertop.

Re: Stone Enhancer

Susan4664, seen that you found the bug in the store, Lustro Italiano has offered a coupon code "Susan4664" which will give you $3.00 off the price. This coupon is good for the next 50 buyers of the Lustro Italiano products over $15.00 or until 01/01/2008.

Re: Stone Enhancer

Thanks! I'm honored to have a coupon code named after me! Unfortunately it is not working. When I entered "Susan4664", it came up as an invalid code.

I just want to be sure that you are recommending I order the kit. I noticed the spray polish has sealers and I have read that Peacock Green granite should not be sealed. Should I go for the kit, or just the spray cleaner?

Re: Stone Enhancer

lol remove the " " and just use Susan4664
The cleaner works as a daily cleaner and the polish do have a sealer in the formula but it is more like a conditioner than a typical sealer. The polish is only to be use on those special occasions when you want to impress your friends. Most peacock green does not need to be deal, but a lot of factors must be taken into consideration. The biggest factor is how it was taken out of the ground. A simple water test can help you decide where you need to seal are not and how often you should seal. Sealers not only stop staining but it also makes the surface that much simpler to clean. I would suggest that you get the kit for now.

Re: Stone Enhancer

If you use the polish you will only use it once every few weeks or once a month. The polish just adds that little bit of extra pop to the stone.

Use the cleaner every few days. There is no reason that a kit shouldn't last you about a year. You will find you need very little - That is unless you have a HUGE kitchen.

The first kit I brought home for my wife to use in our house - which has stone all over the place - lasted almost a year.
