Unhappy stain/poulitice problem on granite

Hello. We recently moved into a home with absolute black granite counters. The counters had several ring/water marks on them. I went to home depot and was told to use a poultice to remove the marks. The poulitce got rid of the marks but the entire area where the poulitce was applied is now much lighter than the rest of the counter. I'm wondering how to fix this new problem?! Should I apply the poultice to the entire counter or try and re-soil the area that was cleaned with the poultice? I would greatly appreciate any advice!!

Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

this is an easy one, but first I need to know if the granite was polish or hone, was the marks that was on the stone darker or lighter than the stone, what did you mix the poultice with, and last question: do you have any pictures of the stone?

Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

Thanks for resonding! I do not know the difference between polished and honed! The counter was here when we bought this place. It is shiny. The granite is called absolute black and the water/ring marks were lighter than the stone. I bought the poultice at home depot. It is by custom building products. It is called Stone Specific Stain Remover - for all stone.

The ring marks are gone now. It's just that the poulitce treated area of the counter is now lighter than the rest of the counter. Thank you!!

I see this a lot out in SoCal on polished "Absolute Black". It's resined absolute black and the water marks are either etches or areas where the color was pulled out of the stone by the liquid. You can have this removed professionally but it will probably happen again.

Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

The poultice removed the round water mark/etchings. Now the problem is that the poultice has lightened the color of the area where it was applied. Now I'm wondering how to fix this new problem.

Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

Ok - I have attached some pictures of the counter. You can see the line across the counter between the darker original color of the counter versus the lighter area where the poultice was applied.

Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

Your stone was enhance to give it that dark color, the lighter shade that you now see is what the stone should look like. Take some acetone and clean off all of that crap from the stone. If you want the stone to have that darker look you will than need to re-enhance the stone and care for that finish.

you can use uniblack1 to get that dark rich color, and than use uniblack2 to keep it looking great.

Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

Thank you for your advice!! So I should use acetone on the area that is now lighter and then use the uniblack to match it to the darker area of the counter? I do have a Miracle Seal and Enhance product - Would that do the same as the UniBlack or do you think UniBlack is a better product? Thank you so much for your help!
