Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

Philo,
When the newly polished edge is lighter than the polished surface it is usually because the stone has been resined for strength or beauty. For those instances a color enhancer will work fine on a polished edge. It is the experience of my customers and myself that black absolute doesn't take to color enhancers. If the stone is getting lighter it could be a couple of reasons:
If it is basalt and has a high calcium content it could be etched and will appear gray.
If it was a dark gray stone that was dyed black and not resined and the color is removed with a poultice or acetone it will appear gray.
The Uniblack 1 & 2 was made for this problem "Absolute Black". It is NOT granite, even though it is sold as granite. It is usually basalt.

Re: stain/poulitice problem on granite

Aloha!

Jo, I think this discussion should be taken in to the trades forum.

These are very good discussions on enhancers, dyes and, resined stone, but maybe a little confusing for the consumer.

Defusco, thank you for the confirmation of altered 'absolut black' and the basalt issue. I have come across jobs that are exactly what you've stated. I would like to hear more about your suggestion for the restoration of black galaxy too.

Philo, i have not heard a review about the Akemi super darkener yet. How would you compare this product to Ager or Ager Tiger?

Thanks,

Glenn K
