our landmark

this is a small article about our ram. the ram is a major symbol out here in the palm springs area. they run around wildly in the mountains, sometimes they come right down to the street in the country clubs. my dad started ceramarmi international almost 30 years ago, it was changed to desert cornerstone, and its now demille marble and granite. i stood out there every day when i was like 7 or 8 years old and watched this guy carve this thing out of a solid block. it was pretty awesome. if you guys want more detailed pics i can get them.

Marble Ram

someone was asking me how much something like this costs. i talked to my dad. he said for the block (i believe its carrera), the transportation, and the guy to do the work he dropped a little over 100k (in 1990). it took 9 months to finish as it was done mostly by hand with a hammer and chisel. im getting ready to do a restoration project on it. i think i may polish the golfer as well, to make it pop out a little more. if you have any other questions just ask. heres the pics. this is also our logo for our business. ill post pics of our new shirts when they come in.

Re: our landmark

That is one heck of a skulpture man. Did you learn anything about carving when watching the craftsman work?

Re: our landmark

i was too young to really appreciate what was going on back then, but i did learn that true stone workers are a dying breed. theres not too many guys that can work with stone without cnc's and computer operated machinery. i understand the whole production thing, but its a shame.

Re: our landmark

Hi Cameron

That's some neat stuff! I'd enjoy seeing more photo's if you have them.

I think we'll always have some sculptures in the midst. Just north of me in Lake Geneva, WI they have an annual snow sculpting contest. I'd like to see a CNC try to accomplish that!
