| | | | Notices | Hi Unregistered,
I am Josveek Huligar of Huligar Stone Restoration. It is my hope that a few good craftsmen and craftswomen will call this sanctuary a home.
I will try to make this place as appealing to you as possible.
We do have a few ground rules (without rules there can only be chaos).
1. Respect yourself and your trade.2.No trade bashing. But, by all means, please debate. It is through the debates that we get to the truth.
3. In your signature, you may not link to any other site. If you supplied your link in your profile, you may put that link under your avatar
4. Do not insult the guests.
5. Your participation is necessary in all polls. This is the only way we can get real feedback.6.You can post pictures of your work. Please, the only work we really care about is the work you do to stone, not on it (nothing inappropriate).
7. You will also be required to be active in this forum. I intend to rid the NSRA Trade area of the hacks and stone-voyeurs by mandating anyone who wants access to the trade lounge to register with their location and trade. If for any reason a person does not participate for duration of 60 days they will be banned from the lounge "No Beer for you". We have guys who are willing to share their knowledge and experience to the public for free. The least you can do is ask the questions. If trade lounge has just one other person, I would be happy if that one person was someone I could exchange ideas with and by doing so better myself. In that way, this site is more about show and tell.
8. The general public will not be allowed in the trade lounge. The trade lounge members are not allowed in the student lounge. The students will be able to view but not post in the general room. All questions for the trade are to be confined to the trade lounge or they would be redirected to the trade lounge. Anyone in the trade lounge can make a reply to the general room once they keep in mind that we are promoting natural stone as a serviceable product.
9. We are craftsmen and women, not politicians. So leave the politics out.
MIA, Marble Cleaning Net, NTC, sfa and ISI are all welcome here as long as they respect this forum. There is a room where all may place their ads and do their promotions for upcoming events, a calendar for trade shows, educational classes, and any other type of trade gathering. For all the salespeople, we even have a place for you. You can enter your product up for reviews and the good folks will grade your products. I must warn you. If your product is inferior, the whole world will know, quickly. No news travels faster than bad news. For all the homeowners, contractors, and designers we even have a place for you. The general room is where you can ask as many questions as you want. You may not get the answer you are looking for but you will get the right answer. If there is any way that we can make your visit more pleasurable, please let us know. | | Consumer Help Discuss, Nasty seam, uneven a bit at Consumer & Non-registered Lounge forum; We had UbaTuba granite installed in our kitchen today. | Nasty seam, uneven a bit We had UbaTuba granite installed in our kitchen today. Everything looks great, except the nasty seam directly in front of our sink. blah! DSCF4344.JPG
The installer said it would darken and become less visible in 24 hours or so. Is this true?
The seam is also slightly uneven, the installer said this was to protect the integrity of the seal. After that, I thought it useless to ask any other questions, because there's no truth to this, right?
If it's not any better by Monday, I'm calling the company that installed it and asking them to fix it. Is a fix for this type of thing even possible? Some of the work I've seen on this forum suggests it is.
Frankly, I'd rather have a pro from this site come out to fix it and pay, rather than having this company muck it up even further.
Anyone listening here willing to travel to Oxford, CT to smooth out and polish my 5' seam? What will it cost me? I love everything else about the install, hate to have to change anything else about it!

Have no fear, the NSRA guys are here.
We may be able to do this gob for you for free. Next weekend we are having a class in CT. If it is not too much of a drive we can fix that seam as part of the class. send me a pm if you wish to learn more. Please note, this offer is only good if your address is close to the class.

| Re: Nasty seam, uneven a bit Scoop,
Yes, that is an ugly seam and Jo is right it can be fixed.
From what I can see the epoxy (at least it better be epoxy and not caulk) the installers put the seam together with will not darken. They are just blowing smoke up your butt to save themselves work.
The class Jo is talking about is over an hour away in Manchester at my shop. It is up to Jo if he wants to drag the class down to you or not.

| Re: Nasty seam, uneven a bit UPDATE!
The original installer is sending their installation manager to the scene of the crime, right now! A much better response than I expected! Hopefully he's qualified to do the job! |

| Re: Nasty seam, uneven a bit seam will darken after 24 hours? if he used any sort of epoxy like most installers, that is total B.S.
seam is uneven to protect the integrity? are you kidding me? nothing looks better and lasts than a flat seam. this guy is definitely blowing smoke. |

| Re: Nasty seam, uneven a bit UPDATE:
So the guys from my granite company responded immediately and sent their "best" installer back to my house last night to correct the seam. After about two hours and alot of buffing I ended up with a much nicer seam.
Before: DSCF4344.JPG
After: DSCF4359.JPG
(The whole uploads folder contains pics of the counter top, feel free to poke around. Anything from the 11th is before the correction, the 12th is after the fix.)
I'm happy with it (happier anyway). It's less noticeable and totally level now.
If you guys can make this seam "disappear", as I've seen in some of your other work, I definitely want you to do the work. Well worth the price you quoted me. If this is as good as it's going to get, I'll live with it.
Let me know what you think! |

| Re: Nasty seam, uneven a bit If you are happy with it, I am happy for you.
That is all that I am going to say about it, if anyone else want to tell you what all they see as been wrong with this seam they may, but I will wait for you to pm me your address.

| Re: Nasty seam, uneven a bit I would have used multiple colors to make that seam hide better. The seam adhesive is opaque when it should have been tinted less color to catch light and have the depth of the natural stone. I think CA could have given the look.
It looks as if there is a slight haze to the stone in that area - could be just the pictures.
