grinding down travertine floors

I'm finallly going to take the plunge and grind down my travertine floors.

I don't have the money to buy a floor polisher so I'm going to have to do it by hand....yikes!!!

What would you guys suggest as far as tooling? I don't have any tools for this yet....not even a var. speed grinder...I only want to take the polish up to 400 grit, then I'm going to apply some enhancer.

Thanks,

Matt W.-

If you're spending money on hand machine and diamonds, you might as well buy a cheap swing machine and save yourself your back and a wavy floor. It's possible and cost effective to do, but why not hire a professional, for after you buy the tooling, you'll have no other use for it.....

I forgot to mention I use to run a fab shop, but I got promoted to a different section within the company. I will have use for the tools afterwards. I can't hire a pro because I can't pay the cash. I can get all the tools for arount $500-$600

How big is your floor.

I don't think it's a good idea, to hand grind your floor. You will not be happy with the results.

If you can buy hand tools and diamonds for around 5-600 bucks. Then rent a swing machine.

There you go, use the same diamonds on a rented swing machine, no brainer.

I would have to caution against using the same diamonds from fab on a swing floor machine if there is some sharp lippage they may tear those bad boys up. but I would suggest renting a machine like the others have.
