Granite installer istallation error

I just had granite counter tops installed in my new kitchen. I have one counter that extends out from the wall in a peninsula. When the granite was installed the granite was cut in a manner that it is exactly flush with the end of the penisula cabinet rather than the 2.5 inch overhang that we had talked about. This looks a little odd to me. When I notified my granite contractor they agreed - for a fix they want to cut back by about 18'' and seam in a new end-piece. Does this sound reasonable? Should I insist on a whole new slab? Opinions appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Granite installer istallation error

how do the other seams look? on the end of the peninsula they will be more noticable. if they are very skilled and can surface polish the seam, it may be acceptable. what kind of stone is it?

Re: Granite installer istallation error

I am trying to picture how your kitchen looks. If you can take a pic of it right now, it can definitely help out with visualization. In the meantime:

It depends on whether you like where the new seam will be. Will it be in an area that is highly visible? Is there a light that is over the area that may make the seam standout more than usual. On other seams that they already have done, are you happy with how they look? - because this is another seam that will look like that one.

Re: Granite installer istallation error

You may never be happy with less than what you expected now that you questioned the cut off and add on.

Work with your fabricator, for this is their work and reputation which they should be concerned for.

You might ask for a discount to settle for less than expected and live with remedy.

Re: Granite installer istallation error

Here are some pictures (excuse the mess - I'm still in contruction phase). This would be the only seam - there are no others.

Re: Granite installer istallation error

i would let them know that they can do it, but if its not up to your standards they will have to replace.

Re: Granite installer istallation error

i would add that there are members of this forum who could really bring the quality of the seam up. if you were my customer im sure i could make you happy with the seam as long as the new pc matched the rest.

that is a hard one. I would leave it as is. But if you do go for a seam, make sure they polish the seam and ask them to see a sample of a polish seam before they touch what you have.

Re: Granite installer istallation error

That's just not right. You paid for tops to be right. I would say no seam - make it over. Didn't these guys make a template? How could they possibly make a mistake like that. Get them to do the job right or get your money back and have a reputable fabricator do it over for you.
