| Re: Granite installer istallation error Greetings,
This is not an error in any way associated with installation. Pure and simple a fabrication faux paw. As a consumer you made an agreement with a fabricator for a custom made counter top. You stated that a 2.5 in. overhang was "talked about". We use a standard of 1 in. overhang at finished end panels. Regardless, your photo shows no overhang. As a fabricator of 13 years and a consultant to many shops in my area, I say they didn't deliver what you ordered. I don't think the idea of a seam anywhere in this peice makes any sence as it would change the symatry of the front edge and be out of balance.
Were I the paid consultant on this I would advise that you either demand the peice be made as was agreed, or accept the piece as is along with a considerable decrease in price from the original contract.
Hopefully you have only paid a 50% deposit at this point and still have monetary leverage.
Good Luck, Gregg Denton .... Restoration Stone |

| Re: Granite installer istallation error Thanks for all the advice. I had the company re-cut and install a new piece with the proper overhang - they were very good about it. Here is my new dilema; the new piece is lighter in color than the piece that was installed previously and doesn't match the other installed granite (they coudn't find a slab from the same lot). When we were discussing cutting the new piece at the shop they put the new granite next to a reminant of the old granite, so I did have a chance to look at it prior to them cutting and installing. I didn't think I would notice the color variation but now that it's installed, I do notice. Is there a product I can put on the new piece (or hire someone to put on) to induce more color in the stone? I would like to make it a little more brownish in appearance. My other option would be to have them re-do the original piece, but it would have to include a seam. I'm kind of at a loss what to do at this point as I OK'd the color of the new piece prior to the install - If I go back to them again it will probably be on my dime. I have invested quite a bit of money in this new kitchen and I want it to look right. I'm willing to shell out some extra $, but I don't want to pay to take it all out and strart over. Thanks for the help. |

| Re: Granite installer istallation error OK, I'll post one when I get home tonight - the color variation isn't that far off - just noticible to me (and more importantly my wife). Thanks. |

| Re: Granite installer istallation error There may be products we can suggest but as Jo said a pic would help us recommend the best one for the job.
One question - has the top been sealed and what sealer did they use if any?
