Granite Crack

I just got a new granite counter top. After the installers left, I noticed a hair line crack in the top, approx. 10" long. It is in the middle of the top. I can hook my finger nail on it.

I called the folks I purchased it from and they sent a person out. After he looked at it, he thought it was a natural crack, but to keep a eye on it and see if it runs.

What is need to know is this normal in granite or is it cracked they had caused and will it get worst.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

Added picture. The color is Paradise Paradisio

Re: Granite Crack

Natural or not it is still a crack and you should not get stone which is cracked. Fissures are acceptable but as long as you cannot feel them with your finger nail. This piece may be fixed but only to your satisfaction. If you are not satisfied with the repair they should replace the piece. A good fabricator or restoration professional should be able to fix it but only if they know what they are doing. If it is done right you will never see it again. If your installer does not know how to fix it correctly have them come onto this site and we will explain how to fix it correctly. Pictures would be very helpful in determining how the crack should be handled.

Re: Granite Crack

monterray, Topshop is correct. If you can post an image of this crack it will help us help you. If you can feel it, it needs to be repaired, the fastest and easy way is to use a tinted supper penetrating adhesive. this adhesive can then be polish to match the rest on the stone.

Re: Granite Crack

From seeing the pic - It needs to be fixed or replaced.

This could be something natural in the stone or the stone was not leveled properly during the install. If it is a improper leveling the crack will grow. Either way it needs to be taken care of quick before junk starts to seep into it and discolors the crack. Then you will see it forever. If your installer is unsure of how to fix it they need to replace it.
