Golden Musk Scuffed?

All,

Any info is greatly appreciated. first let me say after glancing at this forum, that I wish I had come here before purchaseing. So, on with the issues.

I have Golden Musk kitchen counters. After reading the forums I must ask the question, is it granite? Next, how tough is it and should it be sealed.

I was told by the installer that is had been sealed once and I should do it again in about a year. It definately does not seem to absorb much water.

They are only a couple of months old.

I was cleaning them yesterday and there was some stuck on food. I lightly used a scotch brite to help remove it. After the water dried I realized the surface appeard to be scuffed where i had done it.

I never thought for a second that a scotch brite could scratch granite (but is it granite) I can't really feel any difference on the surface but I can definately see it. It looks like little micro scratchs froam an angle or a haze from above.

Is it really scratched or was there by some chance something left on the the sponge that penetrated?

Additionaly, I was never thrilled with the seams, they are noticable, is there anything that can be done about that?

If anyone on here is in the Albany, NY area please chime in.

Thanks

Re: Golden Musk Scuffed?

Those scotchbrite pads are pretty tough. I am affraid that you may have damaged your tops and will need to find a restoration professional to polish the area back up. It may be possible that you only scratched the resin which may have been applied to the stone but either way you will need someone with the proper tools and skills to repair it.

Golden musk is shown on many suppliers sites as a granite but many stones are being called granite and are technically not.

Next time you have something stuck to your tops try to carefully use a new razor blade to scrape it off.

I am not sure who on the forum is in your area that can fix your issue - maybe they will pipe up in the next few days.
