I recently had new venetian gold granite installed in my bathroom and now it has dark splotchy areas throughtout the tile. Im wondering if it will dry up and dispappear? I think it is the thinset seeping thru to the front of the granite.Used grey color instead of white for thinset.

Re: englishlablover Intro

How long ago was the install ? Most of the time this will dry and go away give it at least a week, If not knowing is going to make worry, Try to dry one of the spots with a hair dryer it should lighten up and then you just have to wait it out. Don't worry too much, Even if they are stains, There are procedures that the NSRA members will help you with

Re: englishlablover Intro

Tim,
This past Thursday and Friday the granite was installed. He will be back to grout it Monday morning. Thank you so much for your professionalism and experience in answering my questions. Im wondering if we should have used the white thinset rather than the grey? Or would it have not made a difference?I will try not to worry to much. How long do we wait to seal both the granite and the grout lines? Ive heard one week is good. I am using TEC Guard All Sealer Invisible Penetrating Sealer. How often also should both the granite and grout lines be sealed? Also how do I clean this granite and what should I use product wise? I hope I dont have to start another thread for each of my questions? Please advise me if Im doing something wrong with starting the thread. Thank you very much for your help...It is very much appreciated!

I don't know how often the tile and grout will be needing to resealed. Not knowledgble with that product. Check the grout as to when you seal. Most require 72hrs. after grouting so check.

If you seal the granite before the spots dry out they will take up to months to dry out. Wait to seal.

Re: englishlablover Intro

TopSpot,
Were waiting to grout the tile because my contractor came over today and saw that it was still showing moisture. So Im thinking it might be up to a week for it to all dry. He installed the tile last Thur and Fri. So then we have to seal the tile and grout lines and wait another week before we can use the bathroom. Thanks for the information. Have a nice day.

I always play it safe on light colors, allot of setters use grey thinset and don't have problems

How long do we wait to seal both the granite and the grout lines? Ive heard one week is good.

I like to wait 1 week to be sure all moisture is out

How often should both the granite and grout lines be sealed?

periodicly check with water, put a small amount of water in a few spots let it sit 10-15 minutes and wipe dry, if the water left a dark spot it needs sealing.

how do I clean this granite and what should I use product wise?

A good stone soap is all you need to maintain the stone the NSRA store has some that has been tested and approved by the members here

So then we have to seal the tile and grout lines and wait another week before we can use the bathroom.

No. you can use the bathroom the next morning after sealing

hope this helps

Re: englishlablover Intro

Tim, Thank you very much for answering ALL of my questions and in such a timely fashion. Thank you also to ALL of the people here that responded to my thread....Tim, George, and TopShop. I LOVE this site. It is so very informative. Everyone is very professional and has a vast amount of knowlege and expertise in their particular fields. I will have a conversation with my contractor soon on why he says I am to wait a week after sealing the tile and grout before I can utilize the bathroom. I will come back often to this site to read the threads and articles. And post a few more threads in the future. Hope you all have a wonderful night.
