Question dirty alabaster

I need to clean my dirty white alabaster stone. It has years of dirt and possibly nicotene on it and a few mild stains of unknown origin. Any suggestions out there? Thanks, Mark

Re: dirty alabaster

Alabaster is a calcite-based stone; thus it disolves with acids. Also, avoid hot water if you wish to keep it translucent.
