Re: Denise Intro

I took photos and you can't tell by looking at the pictures. The width of the granite measures 25 1/4 inches on one end and 26 inches on the other. The granite kisses the wall in the corner and tapers out to almost a full inch off the wall at the end. The seam is chippy like it was cut with a steak knife and the distance is about 1/8 of an inch, they filled in with apoxy. They want to fix it by adding a 2 inch back splash. I've already purchased glass tile and don't want the wall to look too busy. Do I call consumer affairs or does this sound normal? HELP!!!!! PLEASE

Re: Denise Intro

It sounds as if they did not make a template of your kitchen before making the tops. Did they fabricate from measurements? What you are describing is not normal.

The industry seam standards as explained by the Marble Institute of America are:
"The abutting stones are to be clean, smooth, and free of chips, spawls, and cracks, unless acceptably repaired", "Joint widths - Horizontal to horizontal hard joints: maximum of 1/16"",

I hope you did not pay fully for the job. I would have the fabricator correct the issue but not by hiding it with a backsplash. Have them re-make or re-install the tops correctly. If they will not then report them to your local consumer protection agency.

Re: Denise Intro

Because we're honest, we paid for the job in full. The contractor has been very good and this is the second cut!!!! This one is worse than the first. He just left and they want to either do the backsplash or add sheetrock. How do we find an independant person in our area to look at this to let us know if we should demand a refund or exchange or accept the revisions they are offering? We live in NY on LOng Island, Nassau County South shore. Thank you for ALL your help. Denise

Re: Denise Intro

Are the overhangs on the front of the cabinet even? They should be a consistant 1 1/2". Are your walls or cabinet faces really uneven? If this is the second cut for them they must not be experienced enough to do the job right. I would have them remove the tops and give you a full refund. There are plenty of fabricators who can do the job right.
