Re: Cleaning limestone daily

like Underfoot said, i recommend every 1-2 years that a professional come for at least an evaluation, if not a thourough cleaning.

i dont think anyone in this business will see eye to eye on everything, if not anything. i dont necessarily think thats a bad thing. different regions will require somewhat different approaches to routine maintanence and cleaning. im always open for suggestions and advice, so i hope no one thinks im a know it all, im far from it.

Re: Cleaning limestone daily

I agree with Dane

Neutral stone specific cleaners should not cause residual problems if the mop water is clear with complete. Also, as Cameron said, dust mopping/sweeping is as of an equal of an importance.

Re: Cleaning limestone daily

Dana,

Keep your stone surfaces dry by dustmopping often or using a neutral spray cleaner with a microfiber mop. Natural stone does not need to be treated on a daily or weekly basis with water.

Water will push dirt and dust into the lowest parts of the stone and grout causing build-up that looks like dirt. This fools home owners into mopping more. I operate a Natural Stone Restoration company that performed work on more than 2 million square feet of residential stone last year. Most of that was deep cleaning or refinishing limestone and travertine that had been improperly over-mopped.

Dust mop often. Vacuum often. Spot clean with neutral cleaner where necessary. Have your floor professionally restored or maintained only when you see the maintenance getting away from you.
