Black Galaxy Granite

We are in the processing of buying Black Galaxy Granite. I have read that it is very dense and does not need to be sealed. Is this true? We heard that the sealer might cause more damage than not sealing the granite. Is this also true? I appreciate any advice that anyone has. Thanks

Re: Black Galaxy Granite

pretty much that all true. the sealer wont cause any damage, it will just be a maintanance nightmare. since the stone is so dense, it wont really absorb water or any other liquid (within a reasonable amount of time) therefore it will not absorb any sealer. in my opinion it would be a headache, waste of time and waste of money to "seal" this stone. youre better off installing the stone and just leaving it alone.

Re: Black Galaxy Granite

I seal everything at the install. Yes, that stone does not take in much but I like to be sure. Sealer will not damage your stone but build up and cause a hazy look if applied too often. One application is a safe insurance policy and will most likely not need to be re-applied for 10 years unless you use harsh cleaners. Stay away from cleaners with sealer in them. Use a pure cleaner like Lustro Italliano and your galaxy will look great all the time.
