I am Josveek Huligar of Huligar Stone Restoration. It is my hope that a few good craftsmen and craftswomen will call this sanctuary a home.
I will try to make this place as appealing to you as possible.
We do have a few ground rules (without rules there can only be chaos).
1. Respect yourself and your trade.2.No trade bashing. But, by all means, please debate. It is through the debates that we get to the truth.
3. In your signature, you may not link to any other site. If you supplied your link in your profile, you may put that link under your avatar
4. Do not insult the guests.
5. Your participation is necessary in all polls. This is the only way we can get real feedback.6.You can post pictures of your work. Please, the only work we really care about is the work you do to stone, not on it (nothing inappropriate).
7. You will also be required to be active in this forum. I intend to rid the NSRA Trade area of the hacks and stone-voyeurs by mandating anyone who wants access to the trade lounge to register with their location and trade. If for any reason a person does not participate for duration of 60 days they will be banned from the lounge "No Beer for you". We have guys who are willing to share their knowledge and experience to the public for free. The least you can do is ask the questions. If trade lounge has just one other person, I would be happy if that one person was someone I could exchange ideas with and by doing so better myself. In that way, this site is more about show and tell.
8. The general public will not be allowed in the trade lounge. The trade lounge members are not allowed in the student lounge. The students will be able to view but not post in the general room. All questions for the trade are to be confined to the trade lounge or they would be redirected to the trade lounge. Anyone in the trade lounge can make a reply to the general room once they keep in mind that we are promoting natural stone as a serviceable product.
9. We are craftsmen and women, not politicians. So leave the politics out.
MIA, Marble Cleaning Net, NTC, sfa and ISI are all welcome here as long as they respect this forum. There is a room where all may place their ads and do their promotions for upcoming events, a calendar for trade shows, educational classes, and any other type of trade gathering. For all the salespeople, we even have a place for you. You can enter your product up for reviews and the good folks will grade your products. I must warn you. If your product is inferior, the whole world will know, quickly. No news travels faster than bad news. For all the homeowners, contractors, and designers we even have a place for you. The general room is where you can ask as many questions as you want. You may not get the answer you are looking for but you will get the right answer. If there is any way that we can make your visit more pleasurable, please let us know. | | Consumer Help Discuss, 3cm marble slab for shower ceiling? at Consumer & Non-registered Lounge forum; Hi everybody,

| 3cm marble slab for shower ceiling? Hi everybody,
I am new here and have a question.
I am redoing my master bath and I am doing a steam shower. I had initially selected honed carrara mosaic for the floor and subway tile for the walls. I was going to use 12x12 carrara tiles for the ceiling but my slab installer suggested I use the left over portion of my slab (3 cm white venatino) for the ceiling of the shower. He assured me that it would be secure and that he did a lot of other jobs with slab on the walls and ceilings.
I am (more than a little) nervous about putting so much weight above the heads of my wife and children. I am pretty sure the installer has never used the 3cm on a ceiling before but I don't know that it matters (2cm vs. 3cm). That is, if it's not a good idea with 2cm it's certainly not a good idea with 3cm. However, I'd really like some opinions on this as I think the look would be striking. I am not willing to sacrifice my family's safety on this, though.
I would really appreciate any thoughts/comments regarding this.
Thanks!
Dan |

| Re: 3cm marble slab for shower ceiling? Here is some advice that you did not ask for. Do not use that stone in a wet area. If your heart is set on this stone, please check to see it you have hard water, this stone is know for oxidation when it is use in areas that has hard water. If you do have hard water, make sure you get a member of the NSRA or a very good restoration guy that knows how to seal this stone correctly.
Now for your install question, we have a few installers on the site, but your best bet is John Bridge Ceramic Tile Forums - powered by vBulletin they always have installers online.

| Re: 3cm marble slab for shower ceiling? Other than that stone being a poor choice for the application the weight of the stone should be no problem as long as you use the proper adhesive/backer combination and it is installed before the wall tiles are put in so the tiles can lock the stone in from falling.

| Re: 3cm marble slab for shower ceiling? Well, I guess I got the answer I was looking for regarding the installation of the slab on the ceiling. The main reason I am considering it is because I have the piece left over from my vanity and tub deck and I thought it would tie in nicely.
I guess a more relevant question was raised with respect to the suitability of the stone for the application. I also suppose the suitability of using the carrara mosaic on the floor of the shower is in question as well. I know I do not have hard water. Are there other reasons besides oxidation from hard water as to why it is a poor choice for a steam shower?
Thank you for helping me make this very important decision. |

| Re: 3cm marble slab for shower ceiling? I do not want to make this stone out to me a bad stone, but you need to know that it is not the best stone for your steam shower. This stone will etch easy, scratch easy, and oxidation.
Ok that is all the bad stuff, now here is how you deal with the stone Have it hone to a 600 grit or 400, this will stop you from seen any etch marks that would be visible in a polish stone. Seal the stone correctly before you ever use the shower, this will pro-long the the look of the stone and stop the oxidation. Now here is the best part, enjoy your stone. use proven stone soaps for day to day cleaning.
If you would like for me to point you in the direction of a few proven stone soaps that would work well with your type of stone and under the conditions in which you have the stone, all you need to do is ask.
