I am Josveek Huligar of Huligar Stone Restoration. It is my hope that a few good craftsmen and craftswomen will call this sanctuary a home.
I will try to make this place as appealing to you as possible.
We do have a few ground rules (without rules there can only be chaos).
1. Respect yourself and your trade.2.No trade bashing. But, by all means, please debate. It is through the debates that we get to the truth.
3. In your signature, you may not link to any other site. If you supplied your link in your profile, you may put that link under your avatar
4. Do not insult the guests.
5. Your participation is necessary in all polls. This is the only way we can get real feedback.6.You can post pictures of your work. Please, the only work we really care about is the work you do to stone, not on it (nothing inappropriate).
7. You will also be required to be active in this forum. I intend to rid the NSRA Trade area of the hacks and stone-voyeurs by mandating anyone who wants access to the trade lounge to register with their location and trade. If for any reason a person does not participate for duration of 60 days they will be banned from the lounge "No Beer for you". We have guys who are willing to share their knowledge and experience to the public for free. The least you can do is ask the questions. If trade lounge has just one other person, I would be happy if that one person was someone I could exchange ideas with and by doing so better myself. In that way, this site is more about show and tell.
8. The general public will not be allowed in the trade lounge. The trade lounge members are not allowed in the student lounge. The students will be able to view but not post in the general room. All questions for the trade are to be confined to the trade lounge or they would be redirected to the trade lounge. Anyone in the trade lounge can make a reply to the general room once they keep in mind that we are promoting natural stone as a serviceable product.
9. We are craftsmen and women, not politicians. So leave the politics out.
MIA, Marble Cleaning Net, NTC, sfa and ISI are all welcome here as long as they respect this forum. There is a room where all may place their ads and do their promotions for upcoming events, a calendar for trade shows, educational classes, and any other type of trade gathering. For all the salespeople, we even have a place for you. You can enter your product up for reviews and the good folks will grade your products. I must warn you. If your product is inferior, the whole world will know, quickly. No news travels faster than bad news. For all the homeowners, contractors, and designers we even have a place for you. The general room is where you can ask as many questions as you want. You may not get the answer you are looking for but you will get the right answer. If there is any way that we can make your visit more pleasurable, please let us know. | | Articles Discuss, How can I care for Natural Stone? at Consumer & Non-registered Lounge forum; Stone Maintenance Cycle

Proper care of natural stones also increase their durability. Once installed, well planned maintenance schedules should be developed to care the stones. Before finalizing the maintenance program, you should first understand that due to natural factors the hardness, density and absorbency of stones differ from each other. So it is essential to know which type of stone you are using and their distinctive characteristics. Then only you can decide which chemicals, pads, brushes and equipments are required to maintain that particular type of stone. Normally, the stone maintenance cycle has three segments: 1) Preventive/Preservation Measures 2) Maintenance 3) Restoration 1) Preventive/Preservation Measures: Due to weathering and absorbent nature of stones, following preventive measures must be taken before installing them. I) Take proper advice and guidance from qualified professionals on the type of stone you are using, this will help you to understand the density, hardness, pore or capillary structure, nature of polish of the stone and gain necessary knowledge about chemicals and procedures to deal with them. ii) Prepare the surface properly and apply walk-off entrance matting. iii) During installation, use penetrating sealer to protect the interior of the stone. 2) Maintenance: More often than not, the beauty and durability of stones depend on proper maintenance. Importantly, one must be aware that there are different caring procedures and techniques for different stones and hence, stones must be identified first in order to select the right cleansers, brushes etc. However, there are some standard maintenance techniques applicable to all stones: I) you should do dust mopping on a regular basis. Rayon mops are preferable and the mops should be clean, cared laundered properly. ii) You should be vigilant on the surrounding environment and if there are pits or cracks, repair them immediately with correct adhesive. iii) Prompt spill pick-ups are important to prevent future etching and staining. iv) Polish stones frequently with polishing compounds. This is important to revive the original polished finishes. v) Regularly apply Poultice powder for extraction of most stains from stones. 3) Restoration: Due to weathering and other natural phenomenons, restoration of stones is necessary from time to time to prolong the natural beauty of your investment. It is important to carefully examine the causes for which restoration is required. Then only you can determine which type of restoration is required: I) Broken or damaged stones should be repaired, and missing grouts replaced. ii) Due to years of use, stones might develop abrasions, scratches, wear and tear. So resurfacing of the surface should be done as needed and by a skill technician using abrasive and other special equipments. You can find a skillful restoration technician at the Natural Stone Restoration Alliance (NSRA) www.nsraweb.com iii) Due to environmental factors, the natural binders and masonry materials of stones gradually deteriorate at some point of time. So consolidation and densification of stones should be performed when required. iv) With time, stones loose their shine if kept unattended. So re-polishing them properly is another important aspect of the restoration job.
