Wow, I can only imagine what hungry hustler might try to pull that off. Well, forget about sealing for a minute, since we don't know what we're dealing with we can't just go put anything on it. If I had stone in my posession and was unsure of it's authenticity I would proceed as follows: Write down clearly what I knew so far about it(Separating physical descriptors from the sales pitch information. both of which may prove equally useful in an investigation. You've been told it was New Venetion Gold. So start by typing in New Venetian Gold into your browser. You can do this under the image search of Google and probably have a true inage before you in no time. How close are the two? Remmber to be liberal and forgiving with this test as ther wil be numerous reasons for the screen image to be sub-par as well as the chance that what you view on one website may very well differ from stone of the same name on another site. Work at it and you should be able to get it under control Then some things to look for with the question of ,"is it granite."
Well it's either going to be soid 1 1/4" thick and setting directly on your cabinets or it will be 3/4" thick with a additional underlay material of 1/2" or so. In the case of the latter it is common to ovserve a seam the entire length of the countertops front side. Also, where your sink is; is it a common stainless steel 16 gauge sink that just drops in to the hole or does it mount to the granite from underneath leaving the hole's rim exposed for viewing. If it is an exposed undermount, then that is a dead give away for being natural stone. Ask yourself if these measurements are correct. Try to check the appearence of the underside of the granite. This may be akward but another good indicator. Natural stone usually feels like broomswept foundation. This should be true for yours as almost all granite is never polished on the back. So look for something dull with liile or no color on the underneath. Expect to see the porous surface for yourself with the help of a flashlight. Touch the underside ( the first inch or two beyond the front side may be smooth as often it will get eased and honed somewhat itself. Do your test on sections further back by pulling out drawers. Hope this helps a little.]]
