Talking Granite : Lemon stains in "Granite"

Subject: Lemon stains in "Granite"

Hi,
I left a bowl of lime juice on my counter top which I thought was granite, but I'm having serious doubts about that now! Some of the lime juice must have spilled down the side of the bowl which sat for about an hour. Now I have a white ring there. Does anyone know how I can remove this?
When I first moved in, I had similar white spots here and there and learned the builder had not sealed the "granite". I hired someone to come out and seal the countertop and he also removed the spots. He used something that cost about $195 a quart. I think the brand name began with an "A". First thing he said to me though, was that he had never seen "granite" like this and was convinced that it wasn't granite. Once sealed, I mistakenly believed I didn't have to be worried about anything staining it again. I would like to try and remove the stain myself (to avoid paying him again...his first visit was $300!!!

I can't seem to paste a picture here, but if you email me I can send a picture of the countertop and the stain. Any help would be greatly appreciated! lynefitz@aol.com

Re: Granite : Lemon stains in "Granite"

hi, just so you know you probably do have granite... lemon, lime oranges, anything with citric acids will "stain" it almost immediatly. its not actually a stain it dulls the top layers which then look different and there for need to be repolished either chemicaly or mechanically. dont know the name of the products though. wee good luck to you.
