I do not want to sound like I am been funny, but you should get the stone restore correctly. It is my belief that an attempt was made to seal your stone with products that was not made for that type of stone. If sealer was left on the surface of your stone, this is what can make it seem like you are damaging the stone, or it can be a wax job. If you can up load an image or two of the damage area of the stone, we will be able to help you solve this problem.
